Potato is a major food crop, has emerged as fourth most important food crop in India after rice, wheat nd maize. Potato (SolanumtuberosumL.) popularly known as ‘The king of vegetables’, It has been observed that duri ng the present trend of diversification from cereals to horticultu ral crops, shift from wheat / barley to potato has t aken place especially owing to higher returns and adaptable to a wide varie ty of farming systems. It is believed that potato p rices are driven by supply and demand by distinctive seasonal trends. P otato prices decline with the increase in supply, an d vice versa.
