The changes in teaching and learning processes have impacted both teachers and students, where the use of information technologies in universities has modified the way of teaching, an example of this is the use of Excel in business schools. The objective of this study is to measure students' perception of the contribution of Excel in subjects in the area of finance at a Chilean state university, as a case study. Methodologically, a Likert scale questionnaire was applied to 177 students and a two-stage cluster analysis was used to determine profiles. Acceptable statistical reliability was obtained, with a Cronbach alpha of 0.96, an overall average score of 3.33 on a scale of 1 to 5. The cluster analysis is based on a cohesion measure of 0.6. The results show a significant advance in the mastery of Excel after completion of the subjects and where students emphasize a high value on its importance in finance training, content transfer and especially its contribution to their future professional development, generating three clusters, and where women have a better evaluation in their formative process.
