This work presents a brief theoretical conceptualization of the complexities of the mechanisms unfolded by the media for the spectacu- larization of the public sphere presented in Jose Ricardo Morales’ play Como el poder de las noticias nos da noticias del poder (1971)1. It fo- cuses on the following research question: What specific complex discur- sive-based power strategies related to the spectacularization of the public sphere in the media can be identified in Jose Ricardo Morales’ play? In this article, my final goal will be to emphasize Morales’ capacity to pre- dict the use of different mechanisms of spectacularization of the public sphere, carried out by the corporate media and politicians to seize infor- mation and, consequently, influence the audience’s decisions and prefer- ences on television.
