The mathematics course is of vital importance for students as of the first grade. A student’s achievement in a particular course is directly associated with his/ her perception regarding such course. In this regard, this study made an attempt to determine the perceptions of students regarding the mathematics course and mathematics teachers through metaphors. The research data were collected via a questionnaire composed of four sections and 16 questions. Although it was a phenomenological study, a questionnaire was employed to have a broader sample. The questionnaire was prepared by the researchers and improved based on expert opinion. The questionnaire was administered in 10 different private education ins- titutions. The questionnaire forms filled in by 640 students were included in the study and subjected to content analysis. According to the findings, while many stu- dents considered the mathematics course difficult, boring, and complicated, some found it easy and enjoyable. In addition, some students stated that one had to be intelligent to succeed in the mathematics course. A reat majority of the students regarded mathematics teachers as intelligent people.
