The purpose of this study is to develop "The Reading Attitude Scale" designed for 5th and 6th grade students of secondary school. The sample of the study, which was selected randomly, consisted of 370 students attending to the 5th and 6th grades of secondary schools located in the Kars downtown. The process of developing the assessment instrument was implemented at two stages as (1) exploratory factor analysis and (2) confirmatory factor analysis. According to the analysis results, it was determined that the scale consisted of 26 items and 1 subscale. This subscale was named as the reading attitude. Then, the internal consistency of the assessment instrument was calculated using Cronbach Alpha coefficient and it was found that the results obtained from the data set had considerably high reliability.
