The aim of this research is to show to what extent high school students’ speaking anxiety and their attitudes towards English language courses predict their participation in the classroom. This study was conducted with 442 students. As means of data collection in this study; “Classroom Engagement Inventory”, “English Speaking Anxiety Scale” and “Attitude Scale for English Course” were used. The research data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), t test, ANOVA, Pearson Product Moments Correlation Coefficient (r) and stepwise regression analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that the attitude towards English courses predicted nearly half (41.2%) of the high school students’ participation in English courses and their English speaking anxiety failed to significantly predict their participation in English courses.
