Reduction of thermal energy consumption can be achieved by using the appropriate technical solutions. In order to reduce heat losses in the industry and power sector thermal insulation of equipment and installations should be applied. Selection of adequate insulation material and insulation thicknesses has particularly importance in designing process. In addition to the primary function of reducing the heat loss, by using the insulation can be achieved also other effects, such as sound insulation, fire protection of material and the protection of workers from burns in the plants. This paper presents the basic technical characteristics and the importance of thermal insulation. In the particular case has been made monitoring the impact of thermal insulation on reduction of heat loss.
