Sharing the knowledge: A review of fundamentals of scientific writing

Bilimsel yay›nlar her araflt›rmac› icin buyuk onem tafl›maktad›r. Bilimsel cal›flma sonuclar›n›n genifl kitlelerle paylafl›lmas› bilgiyi artt›r›p konunun anlafl›lmas›n› salad›¤› gibi kendi alan›nda yeni cal›flmalar›n yap›lmas›na da onculuk eder. Ayr›ca sayg›n yay›nlar uretmek araflt›rmac›lar›n meslek- sel ilerlemesine katk›da bulunur. Bilimsel cal›flma verilerinin ve sonucla- r›n›n yeterli fleklide sunulmamas› makalenin dergi editorleri ve hakemler taraf›ndan reddedilmesine ya da yay›n kalitesinin dufluk olmas›na neden olacakt›r. Bilimsel makale yazma sanat› bu kadar onemli olmas›na ramen bu konuya ait eitim programlar› yuksek o¤retim mufredatlar›nda yete- rince yer almamaktad›r. Bu makalede ozellikle yazma surecinin bafl›nda olan o¤renci ve genc akademisyenlere bilimsel yaz› yazma konusunda ba- z› temel bilgilerin sunulmas› amaclanmaktad›r. Sharing the results of scientific work with a broad audience enhances knowledge and understanding of the topic as well as it might stimulate further research within the field. Furthermore, well respected publications are the foundation of career advancement for each individual scientist. Poor presentation of data and results often causes manuscript rejection from journal editors and scientific reviewers and might lead to low impact publication or no publication at all. Despite that correlation the art of scientific writing is rarely part of our curricula for higher education. This article addresses the young scientists and is meant to provide some basic recommendations on scientific writing as a starting point for the develop- ment of a proper scientific manuscript.
