The global context of growing social inequality with serious repercussions on health, makes reflection on health equity urgent and necessary. Based on a review of the different conceptions of equity in health, in the framework of the ethical-political discussion of social justice, we seek to discuss elements that contribute to the construction of plural methodologies to understand health equity. The review is carried out based on two essential principles of human social life that underpin the conceptions of social justice, freedom and equality.
