Vegetable based farming is rapidly emerging as one of the important production systems in India as this enterprise produces a much higher income than any other type of farming in a shorter period of time. With a uniform market demand throughout the year vegetable farming has tremendous potential to become the viable livelihood option for large number of small and marginal farmers of the country. Vegetables are important sources of vitamins, minerals and micronutrients, dietary fiber, antioxidants and provide farmers with higher income per hectare in comparison to cereal, pulses, oil seeds and other crops.
