Uma vaga de democratização em África?

espanolBetween 1990 and 1995, a wave of protests swept Sub-Saharan Africa and started a process of political change, some merely cosmetic other more substantial. Yet, it is still not clear the relationship between these processes and other processes of political transition already identified, namely the third wave of democratization, which affected other continents. Is the African process part of this third wave or is it clearly distinct from it? This article aims to answer this question, by reexamining the causes, the processes and the results of the third wave and comparing them with what happened in Africa. portuguesEntre 1990 e 1995, uma onda de protestos varreu a Africa Subsariana e principiou um processo de alteracoes politicas, algumas cosmeticas, outras mais substanciais. No entanto, nao e claro de que forma estes processos se relacionam com outros processos de transicao politica identificados anteriormente, nomeadamente a denominada terceira vaga de democratizacao, que afetou outros continentes. Sera que o processo africano faz parte ainda dessa terceira vaga ou apresenta- -se como claramente distinto desta? Este artigo procura responder a esta questao, reexaminando as causas, os processos e os resultados da terceira vaga e comparando-os com o que sucedeu em Africa.
