Educational Issues and Concerns in Travel Health Advice: Is All the Effort a Waste of Time?

Along with prescribing and vaccinating, a large part\udof any pretravel consultation is the provision of information to the traveler. Clients are advised what to do to stay as healthy as possible during their journey. By the end of the visit to the travel clinic or general practitioner, the traveler has been told what there is to know, and “the case is closed. ”But is it? This article discusses a little-explored area in travel health, the use of educational theory to inform the activity of travel health advice. It suggests how an educational-behavioral framework might be used to increase the likelihood of this advice being accepted
