THE suburbs about Kendall, I)ade County, Florida support an expanding population of the first bulbuls (Pycnonotidae) in the New World. Red-whiskered Bulbuls (Pycnonotus jocosus) escaped from captivity here in the summer of 1960 (Fisk 1966). Their successful invasion of southeastern Florida provided opportunity for the study of the biology of introduction and insight into the ecology of a rapidly changing region that comprises a large part of the only tropical portion of the continental United States.
