From the obstetrical point of view, the principal interest lies in the three appendices where Kronig and Gauss give the details of the method and meet the various arguments which have been launched against " twilight sleep." The writers evidently realize the extra work involved in the method as now practised, and quote Kronig when he states that the obstetric staff of the delivery ward had to be trebled. Hope is held out that the Kibemont-Dessaigne's method may prove so simple as to be generally applicable without special conditions of environment being required.
