Currency problems may seem at first to have little to do with revolution, but during the early years of the Indonesian Revolution circumstances were such that currency became a major element in the struggle between the opposing parties. In fact, the conflict over currency had such wide-ranging political implications that it was one of the reasons behind the Dutch decision to launch their first "Police Ac tion" against the Republic in July 1947.
