A troop of a dozen black-faced, slender langur monkeys cavort about as they travel across a forest outside the small Himalayan village of Melemchi. Calling to each other with wild whoops, the monkeys' expressive faces and quick bodies move in a flurry across the still sky. All is well. But then a strange male langur approaches. Frightened, the females avoid the newcomer, clutching their unweaned infants close. It is no use.
