Motivated to contribute to the improvement of the care provided to these individuals, it was proposed that a study through a literature review on the current evidence of physical therapy intervention in patients undergoing hemodialysis would allow necessary changes to achieve well-being and quality improvement of life of this group. This is a literature review based on searches in the BVS, MEDLINE, PUBMED databases, which included clinical trials conducted by physiotherapists published from 2015 to 2019 in national and international journals. Few nephrology services have physical therapists. Physical therapy is effective in improving the functional capacity of patients undergoing hemodialysis, but studies on the barriers to the participation of renal patients in exercise programs and the mandatory presence of physiotherapists in hemodialysis centers are required.
