From this correlation with GISP2, as well as from correlations with high resolution ocean records such as that from DSDP–609, it is concluded that the Monticchio record clearly demonstrates a link between the closely coupled ocean–atmosphere system of the North Atlantic region and environmental changes in the Mediterranean region.
