Changes brought about by public and private organizations from the late 70s and, mainly after the 80s, caused by the change towards a neoliberal model have led to the implementation of a series of economic technologies, among which we can highlight the novel application of salary systems known as variables or result-based schemes, but that, in all truth, correspond to models designed and criticized for more than 150 years. The author, within the framework of a research study he participated in, carries out a critical appraisal regarding the implementation of such methods based on trends such as management and public management and, particularly, within the Colombian context. Such a research study critically evaluates their main limitations and problems and, thus, advocates for the implementation of salary systems based on creative results that do increase social efficiency and effectiveness, do not divert from the social purposes of public management, do not affect society in general, and, mainly, that do not conflict with public interests that are ultimately their raison d?etre.
