O objetivo deste trabalho e analisar a Guerra dos Marimbondos, revolta contra o registro civil e o censo geral do Imperio, a luz dos processos de negociacao que compoem a construcao do Estado no Segundo Reinado brasileiro. Acreditamos que a revolta em questao deve ser encarada como uma manifestacao politica que evidencia elos de pertencimento dissonantes do projeto politico hegemonico da ordem imperial do contexto, matizando a representacao de estabilidade politica do periodo. Apos breve apresentacao do episodio, tratamos do esforco do governo no sentido de deslegitimar o movimento para entao discutir a expressividade da revolta e seus sentidos sociopoliticos. The main purpose of this article is to analyze the episode known as Guerra dos Marimbondos, a rebellion against obligatory civil registration of births and deaths in the Brazilian empire, considering the negotiation processes on the construction of imperial state. We argue that the rebellion must be analyzed as a political expression that shows some conflicting belongings in relation to the hegemonic political project. The text presents the episode - particularly in Pernambuco - and remarks the government efforts to delegitimize the mouvement, discussing Guerra dos Marimbondos' expressiveness and its political and social meanings.
