The field of anorexia nervosa is experiencing a great deal of activity at present with predominantly practical and empirical issues. In contrast, theoretical and methodological considerations have rather been neglected. The term existential analysis (Daseinsanalyse) was introduced by Binswanger basing his approach on Martin Heidegger, to characterize a method for investigating psychopathological phenomena. The Daseinsanalytic view of the anorexia nervosa and its world ask just to look at the phenomena themselves, as they confront the psychiatrist. The statements are extremely strict, careful, and subtle, descriptions and expositions of the essential aspects and features of anorectics, of their being-in-the-world.
