Steril. 84, 1509 (2005) [ 1 ]. Describes a report of a 46-year-old woman who had a total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. After surgery, the patient underwent ovarian cortical transplantation of fresh autologous ovarian cortical strips to her lower abdomen. Follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone and estradiol were measured at 3-month intervals. This paper describes the last year of her sampling, ending at 18 months postsurgery. The patient had no menopausal symptoms. Hormonal secretion was at times at postmenopausal levels and at times at premenopausal levels. There was evidence of folliculogenesis and ovulation.
