Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death and disability. Prevention and management programs of these diseases have a basic role in the control of these diseases. This study aimed to determine the effect of health-related lifestyle self-management intervention on health promotion behaviors in patients with ischemic heart disease. Methods: This clinical trial was performed on 92 patients with accessible sampling. Data were collected via demographic and health promotion behavior questionnaires. The intervention group took part in the self-management lifestyle program and the control group had regular training. Data analysis was done by descriptive statistics and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, chi-square, independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test using the SPSS software version 16. Results: Results showed significant statistical difference between mean scores of health promotion behaviors in both groups )P > 0.05(, yet after the intervention in four areas of health responsibility, physical activity, interpersonal relation and nutrition, a significant difference was observed )P = 0.0001(. Results also showed a significant difference )P = 0.0001( in both groups in all aspects except stress management )P = 0.067( before and after the intervention. conclusions: The results showed that the program was effective on health promotion behaviors of patients with heart disease and appropriate intervention strategies could be utilized to improve the health of patients.
