This paper analyze the potential of 3D scanning technology as a tool to aid in the preservation, diffusion and study of pinned insects in museums, review the state of the art in model acquisition methods and discuss the process from physical acquisition to model digital output. Due to the difficult-to-represent dimensions and surfaces found in most insects, these specimens require specific scanning methods. For this reason, through an exploratory and bibliographical research methodology, a survey of works already carried out in the area of digitization of museographic collections was carried out. Methods were then analyzed for the scanning of insects, marking their characteristics and procedures. With this, it was possible to analyze and point out some fundamental aspects regarding the 3D scanning of insects.
