The goal of this proposal was to advance basic knowledge in x-ray optics by continuing to apply and refine x-ray standing wave interferometric methods of studying crystal surfaces and by developing new x-ray optical methods to probe matter. The remainder of this report is divided into two sections outlining the accomplishments made first in the area of applying crystal optics to the study of crystal surfaces, and secondly in the more general area of developing new crystal optics
