Structural and superconducting properties of La{sub 2-x}K{sub x}CuO{sub 4} were studied by neutron and x-ray powder diffraction, ac magnetic susceptibility, and dc electrical resistivity. Superconductivity is observed in both orthorhombic and tetragonal phases with x{ge}0.06 and is absent for x{le}0.04. At room temperature, the system undergoes an orthorhombic-to-tetragonal phase transition at x{similar_to}0.07. Diffraction studies show no evidence of a low temperature tetragonal phase at 50 K. Comparison of these structural and superconducting properties with earlier data indicate that K contents have previously been highly overestimated
