This paper presents the technique of working with the authentic texts from the English Internet sites on the basis of lexical and grammatical adaptation of linguistic material. In preparing training materials for e-learning courses quantitative and qualitative methods of adapting the texts in foreign languages are offered. The quantitative adaptation method means removing, nonessential, minor parts of the text sentences and collocation. Quality adaptation of the texts the substitution of complex, non-frequent or unusual grammatical constructions to simple or familiar ones for the students; the replacement of lexical units, far from dominant synonymous series, into the very dominant; expansion of synonymous series; providing the text with translation comments. Due to using this technique in English language teaching the efficiency of forming language skills and developing speech abilities increases; differentiation and individualization of education are achieved; important social and personal characteristics as activity, independence, autonomy, responsibility, self-control, self-esteem, reflection are developed; cognitive capacity and motivation of the students to learn foreign languages are improved. The authors noticed the importance of the formation of digital competence i.e. confident, efficient, safe and critical use of information and communication technologies in modern society. Digital competencies and literacies include information literacy, multimedia literacy, communication competence, technical literacy, consumer literacy, competence in the field of security and network and motivated desire to become a powerful member of the information society.
