Transformaciones socioeconómicas territoriales en el municipio de San Martín Texmelucan, México 1980-2010

The objective of this paper is to analyze socioeconomic transformations in the municipality of San Martin Texmelucan from 1980 to 2010, through the perspective of the new rurality approach. This information is supported by bibliographical and documental reviews, field notes, in-deep interviews with key informants, and territory information analysis. An acceleration in the process of urbanization during the decade of eighties and nineties was occurred, and by the decade of the nineties two types of conurbations were perceived: central and periphery. In the same decade, the economy that was based on agriculture changed to an industrial one. Moreover, another spatial changes, we found an important reduction in the areas agricultural, vegetation and wetlands, while the urban area has increased.
