This paper argues that reasoning tasks about products, especially product comparison, should be implemented as individual Web services, for a multiplicity of reasons. The paper discusses both technical (e.g. required ontologies) and economical aspects (e.g. agency problems and incentives for the creation of substitution knowledge).
