This document (of 351 pages) contains the proceedings of a one-day roundtable on regulation and competition issues relating to the broadcasting industry, held at the OECD in October 1998. The publication includes submissions from 15 OECD member countries describing in detail the regulatory regime for broadcasting and some of the competition policy issues which have arisen. The document also includes a background paper prepared by the OECD secretariat discussing the economics of broadcasting, approaches to regulation of broadcasting and highlighting the features of the industry which give rise to competition concerns.The document includes a summary of the oral discussion at the roundtable and a nine-page executive summary setting out the key ideas to emerge.
