: Three models for inferring atmospheric liquid water content from conventional weather data are compared on the basis of a large sample of predictions for 11 stations in the USSR. Two of the three models were developed at the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory; the third is the Smith-Feddes model of the Air Weather Service. Comparison is in terms of integrated liquid water content and the environmental severity index. For want of independent measurements of water content, no light is shed on the absolute accuracy of these models.
