This article provides examples of trends in Hip-Hop music, business, and culture which are highly-comparable to major topics for practitioners in scholarly communication. These lessons discuss Hip-Hop artists and research authors as both being creators, navigating a marketplace disrupted by internet technology. Such conversation may allow students to bring their existing framework of knowledge about popular media and apply it to a new understanding of the scholarly communication environment. This may also provide librarians new perspectives to view familiar issues.
