espanolPartiendo de la combinacion de metodologias procedentes de dos areas tematicas: los estudios turisticos y los estudios sobre procesos de innovacion en el marco del desarrollo local, el articulo recoge un conjunto de reflexiones sobre la posibilidad de reconduccion hacia criterios de calidad y sostenibilidad de la actividad turistica de los municipios mediterraneos espanoles. Basandose en fuentes estadisticas y en encuestas y entrevistas, los resultados ponen de manifiesto las consecuencias del proceso de concentracion de la actividad en los sectores de construccion y turismo que tiene lugar entre 1981 y 2001 en estas localidades, del que se derivan un conjunto de retroacciones negativas para el logro de practicas turisticas de calidad y sostenibles, centradas en la dualidad turismo residencial-turismo hotelero. EnglishUsing a combination of methodologies taken from studies on tourism and studies on innovation processes in the framework of local development as a starting point, the article focuses on a series of considerations regarding the possibility of reorienting tourism activity in Spanish Mediterranean towns towards quality and sustainability criteria. Based on statistical sources, surveys and interviews, the results highlight the consequences of the concentration of activity in the building and tourism sectors in these towns between 1981 and 2001. Said concentration gave rise to a series of negative retroactions in respect of the goal of quality and sustainable tourism activities, focused on the residential tourism-hotel tourism duality.
