The Cholesterol Lowering Atherosclerosis Study, a controlled angiographic trial, has reported that new native coronary artery lesions are significantly reduced by aggressive blood lipid lowering therapy with colestipol plus niacin. To study factors relevant to primary atherosclerosis prevention, we have conducted an epidemiologic analysis of new native coronary lesion formation in placebo-treated patients.
