Cancer predisposition syndromes are caused by inherited mutations in tumor suppressor genes. Remarkably, despite the presence of the faulty tumor suppressor gene in virtually every cell in the body, individuals with a cancer predisposition syndrome develop tumors in specific organs but not others.
