This article presents an analysis of Six Melodies of American composer John Cage (1912-1992). Composed in 1950, the work belongs to his second compositional period, called Romantic Period (1938-1950) by Solomon (1998, 2002). The musical analysis is carried out from the investigation of compositional processes (micro-macrocosmic form and gamut technique), focusing formal and structural aspects of the work. Thus, we seek to reveal details about the aesthetics of Cage during his first years as composer and of the influence that his life partner, Merce Cunningham, exerted on his works during this period. The study of compositional techniques developed during the Romantic Period reflects the change in the aesthetic-philosophical thinking of the composer.
