YABANCI DİL ÖĞRETİMİNDE ŞARKILARIN KULLANIMI: FRANSIZ DİLİ EĞİTİMİ BÖLÜMÜ ÖĞRENCİLERİYLE BİR UYGULAMA

Bu arastirmanin amaci, yabanci dil derslerinde kullanilan sarkilarin ogrencilerin dil ogrenimine olan katkilarini belirlemektir. Arastirma Anadolu Universitesi Egitim Fakultesi, Yabanci Diller Egitimi Bolumu Fransizca Ogretmenligi Programinda ogrenim gormekte olan ve Diller Icin Avrupa Ortak Basvuru Metnine gore yabanci dil seviyesi B1 kabul edilen 19 ogrenciyle gerceklestirilen nitel bir arastirmadir. Arastirmada tarama modeli kullanilmistir. Arastirmanin verileri, 12 hafta boyunca her dersin sonunda ogrencilerin yazdigi yansitici gunluklerle toplanmistir. Uygulama oncesi, ogrencilerden gunlukleri icten ve durust bir sekilde yazmalari istenmis ve gunluklere not verilerek degerlendirilmeyecegi soylenmistir. Uygulama sonrasi elde edilen veriler, belge incelemesi yontemi kullanilarak cozumlenmistir. Ayrica, verilerin sayisal olarak ifade edilebilmesi icin de siklik dagilimi ve yuzde analizi yapilmistir. Arastirmanin verilerinden elde edilen bulgular, yabanci dil derslerinde kullanilan sarkilarin oncelikle, ogrencilerin kelimelerin dogru soylenis bicimlerini ogrenmelerine, yabanci dildeki kelime dagarciklarini ve derse olan ilgilerini arttirmalarina, dinleme-anlama becerilerini gelistirmelerine, derse katilimlarini arttirmalarina, derse karsi olumlu tutum gelistirmelerine katkida bulundugunu gostermektedir. Bu arastirma, ayrica, sarkilarin yabanci dil derslerini eglenceli hale getirdigini, ogrencilerin ogrendikleri dilin kulturu hakkinda bilgi edinmelerini sagladigini, ogrencilerin yabanci dile karsi olumlu tutum gelistirerek daha kalici bir ogrenme sagladigini ortaya koymaktadir. Ve son olarak da, sinifta kullanilan sarkilarin ogrencilerin yabanci dilin gunluk yasamdaki kullanim bicimlerini ogrenmelerine, ezber yeteneklerini gelistirmelerine yonelik olumlu ve onemli katkilari oldugunu gostermektedir. T HE USE OF SONGS IN TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGES: A STUDY WITH THE STUDENTS IN FRENCH LANGUAGE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the contribution of songs to students’ language learning in foreign language classes. This research is a qualitative study conducted with 19 students of the Department of Foreign Language Education (French Language Teaching Program) of the Faculty of Education at Anadolu University. Their language level is B1 according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Data are collected from students who wrote a reflective diary at the end of each course for 12 weeks. Before the application, the students are asked to write their diaries sincerely and honestly. Data are analized using the method of document analysis. Also, frequency and percentage analysis are used to obtain numerical data. According to the findings with the use of songs, students pronounced words correctly, they have increased lexical knowledge. Additionaly, they are motivated and they developed their listening skills, their participation rate increased and they developed a positive attitude towards the course. This study reveals that the songs make the language courses enjoyable, the students learn about the culture of the language they are learning and develop positive attitudes towards foreign language. The songs provide a more permanent learning. And finally, this research shows that with the use of songs in the classroom, students learn language which is used in daily life and develop their memorization skills.
