Energy is a basic condition for the development of a nation and building a strategic and sustainable energy matrix is a goal that should be part of planning any country that vigorously seek development. In this perspective, it is questionable to what extent Brazil could use a centralized electrical grid in hydroelectric projects as a strategy, before the development paradigm of logistical status. The objective of this study is to analyze how the planning of electric matrix in Brazil could insert in the proposed new development paradigm of logistical status. The research method is qualitative, exploratory and based on bibliographic and documentary survey. The study demonstrated that the paradigm of logistical status as a fundamental concept of the current Brazilian development model and as a determinant in planning the electrical grid, still plans expansion primarily through the water source based on GDP growth. These findings revealed the need for a more plural indicator GDP to assess more fully the need for electricity expansion , and how Brazil is subject to hydrological risks, lacking a diversifying its energy matrix to achieve both a strategic condition as to be able to be called sustainable.
