This project is enrolled in the Arts Education Macro-Project, corresponding to Education, Language and Communication line in the Faculty of Education at the University of La Salle. It aims to identify and characterize photography practices teaching and the constituent elements of these teaching practices like as a way of visual literacy and training in the gaze. It also makes some considerations regarding visual literacy from photography as an artistic expression. This study was conducted in five district schools situated in three locations in Bogotá: Fontibón, Usme and Ciudad Bolívar, with high school teachers from arts education. The methodological design is a qualitative descriptive explanatory type of study; techniques used for data collection were the survey: for diagnosis and identification of key informants; it was semi-structured interview: to deepen and collect information about teaching practices photography. The results point to the importance of training students in the visual literacy from photography like an artistic expression, from teaching technique and image reading in relation to the before, during and after the photo shoot. The principal conceptual references used were: for photographic technique, Langford (1990); for visual literacy, Dussel (2006); as to the syntax of the image Dondis (1992) and from the teaching Zuluaga (1999).
