Traditionally it has been understood that the main function of human reasoning is to process and evaluate information from perceptions and foreknowledge; improve individual cognition or manage new and anticipate the future. However, recent studies suggest that reasoning would have evolved and adapted to the argument and its main function would be to discuss; win the debate; impose their own ideas; and justify past actions, regardless of whether the conclusion reached during the argument is logical or correct.
