The main objective of this article is to be a reference tool for people interested in knowing the requirements and procedures established in the world and Costa Rican legislation for the registration of a patent of invention. The most important definitions are disclosed, as well as the laws that define the patentability criteria and technical documents that must be presented. A relevant conclusion of the study is that in Costa Rica there is all the legal regulations necessary to be able to successfully register a patent. In addition, expert advice is recommended so that the process ends with a positive resolution, so that the Patent Office of the National Registry draws up the registration resolution granting a patent number, a registration notice is issued and Make a certificate.
