The present article is an attempt to analyse Polish and English translations of Zarathustra by F. Nietzsche with regard to the alliteration. Its aim is to examine to what extent this rhetorical figure has been conveyed in the appropriate renditions. The alliteration is inasmuch difficult to restore in the translations, as it comprises both the sound and the semantics of a certain word sequence. On the other hand, it constitutes the stylistic value of any literary work that should be also saved in the translation, if possible. An other issue is the status of the alliteration in the stylistic tradition of a given language. With regard to the German and English language, this tradition reaches of the Germanic Age.
