Job safety is a prominent aspect of employee expectations. This paper addresses job safety in a broader perspective, to make it more appropriate for the present needs and business applications. The author postulates to supplement the standard set of work safety and hygiene elements with items that pertain to conditions and security of employment. It is assumed that the increase of job safety, as defined above, may best be addressed through employee participation, particularly of the direct type. The paper presents suggestions for practical realization of employee participation to stimulate innovative behaviours among employees in the context of job safety and security. Suggestions for changes in this area are illustrated with examples from business practice. The postulated line of thought, presented here as a sequence of activities, includes the results expected from the use of employee participation, both from employer’s and employee’s perspective.
