Amenazas y oportunidades de la estrategia actual de negociación frente al paramilitarismo en el marco de la relación de Colombia con Estados Unidos

This article examines the tension between the interests of Colombia and the US in relation with the current disarmament, demobilization and reintegration process of paramilitary groups, taking into account that of the way this process is carried out it will depend whether it represents a threat or an opportunity for Colombia's national interests in the framework of its relation with the US. With this purpose it first presents a map of the US interests towards this issue and describes the resources it has to defend them; secondly, it characterizes the interests and resources of the paramilitary groups and; finally, it analyses the threats and opportunities that this process is creating for Colombia in the framework of its relationship with the US and proposes some practical recommendations in order to reorient it.
