EVALUATION OF THE MARRIAGE CEREMONY OF BAYEZID I (The Thunderbolt) ACCORDING TO WEDDING TEXTS [SURNAMES] IN THE EARLY OTTOMAN HISTORY ABSTRACT Surnâmes are the primarily sources of the history of the Ottomans imperial ceremonies. As a part of Classical Turkish Literature, Surnâmes describe sultan’s sons and daughters birth, circumcisions of the sons or wedding ceremonies of the daughters and sisters. First examples of detached surnames were written in the last quarter of the XVIth century. But there is no doubt that the ceremonies had been already performed before that date in Ottoman society. While there was no examples of detached surnames, Ottoman chronicles, Suleymannames and Selimnames were used as a main sources of that time history. In this article it has been tried to make an assessment about chronicle first Ottoman Surnâme in which whose wedding ceremony was described and the author of the Surnâme. For this purpose, in this article imperial marriage ceremonies will be examined with the help of these sources. Key words: Surnâme, Ottoman Chronicles, Asikpasazade, Behisti, Ceremony.
