The article was undertaken to determine the concept of boy and girl in Western culture, review of bioethics theories concerning the autonomy of children and establish the relationship between the concept of boy and girl and bioethical theories. The methodology is rigorously reviewed articles, books and primary sources, interviews and web pages. Faced with the autonomy of children identifies three conceptions: a traditional, where the adult takes decisions for the child. Middle positions are considered to opinion on matters affecting them and developing autonomy, but finally the adult makes the decision. And a new concept involves the child in all decision–making process that affects them, do they take decisions and share with the adult. In conclusion, the novel conception of child active, participatory, capable of making decisions, involves the recognition of dignity and respect. This breaks the traditional concept of Western culture itself.
