This paper presents a new approach for real time delivery of a Manufacturing Automation laboratory course at a distance. The enabling technology is the combination of an interactive TV system and the Internet. The interactive TV system, controlled by operators at each location, establishes real time audio/video connection between two remote classrooms and a local classroom that are hundreds of miles apart. Details of five laboratory exercises developed and implemented in the first offering of the course are explained. In addition, a method used to assess course outcomes is presented.
