Population growth and infrastructure requirements demand good understanding of environmental engineering related issues from civil engineering technology graduates. Consequently, back in 1998 the Civil Engineering Technology (CET) Department at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) started activities to improve the existing environmental laboratory, so the school could provide the students a general understanding of water quality, and water and wastewater treatment. This paper addresses decisions made to improve the capabilities of the laboratory, ways to obtain funds and laboratory tests considered relevant for undergraduate students.
