Margaret Layne, Virginia Tech Peggy Layne, P.E., joined Virginia Tech in 2003 as director of the AdvanceVT program. Ms. Layne previously worked as a diversity consultant for the American Association of Engineering Societies and as director of the program on diversity in the engineering workforce at the National Academy of Engineering. Ms. Layne is a registered professional engineer with degrees in environmental and water resources engineering from Vanderbilt University and the University of North Carolina School of Public Health, and worked for 17 years as an environmental engineering consultant. She spent a year as an AAAS Congressional Fellow sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers and served as president of the Society of Women Engineers in 1996-97.
