This paper provides an overview of the modifications made to the freshman level Introduction to Aerospace Engineering course at Texas A&M University and details the motivation for transitioning to a more design-centered course structure from previous modifications made over the past few years. The course focuses on three multi-week design projects supplemented by other various forms of instruction, such as guest lecturing and student mentoring. The paper concludes with survey results and testimonials that demonstrate the effectiveness of engineering design education at the freshman level.
